Alan Barnes – Australia

‘Baring Arms’ (chicken), acrylic on canvas, 45.7 x 60.9 cm. or 18.3" x  24.3" in.

Alan Barnes was born in 1975 in Melbourne Australia, where he is currently based.

He has always drawn and painted and although not formally trained, always strives to improve his techniques, styles and skills, developing from quick sketches to his more complex and completed works of today. Drawing inspiration from the world, the future and darker parts of society, he creates often dark and provocative artworks.

Interest from friends and family led Alan to develop a web page to gain broader recognition and opinion of his work.  This proved to be extremely worthwhile, as it led to nomination to the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art and the Chania International Art Festival, as well as invitations to exhibit in galleries in Melbourne, New York and Montreal. Alan has recently been invited to show work in various publications including Artoteque (online magazine), Artmondial catalogue and M.O.T. (Masters of Today contemporary art book). He has shown works in the Royal Melbourne Show in 1998, the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art 2003 and recently in a solo show ‘Altered States’ held in Melbourne in 2005. Alan returns to the Florence Biennale for a second time in December 2007.
