Gregory Steel - U.S.A.

'Teeth', the tube series, video art.

Gregory Steel was born in Detroit Michigan in 1954. He earned his BFA degree from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and then a Masters degree from the University of Michigan while working fulltime. Gregory is currently a professor of visual arts at Indiana University.

Gregory’s evolution as an artist and person has led him to not make distinctions between art and life. The art of ideas is a fundamental to his working process and is at the heart of all the work to date. Gregory cites Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Beuys, Lawrence Weiner and Allan Kaprow as influencing his artistic development.

His work today takes on many faces, from object making, digital imaging, book publishing, installation, digital video, digital performance, new technology and performance. Gregory has exhibited all over the United States and in Europe, most recently with exhibitions in the China, Barcelona, Spain, Russia and London England.
